System Administrator Job Analysis
Job Description:
The System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining the organization’s computer systems, servers, and networks to ensure stability, security, and performance. They manage backups, resolve user issues, and implement system upgrades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage.
- Install and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware.
- Manage backups, disaster recovery testing, and data integrity.
- Respond to and troubleshoot system-related user requests.
- Perform software updates, patches, and security configurations.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations and policies.
Daily Tasks:
- Review system performance logs and resource usage.
- Perform scheduled backups and recovery validation.
- Respond to IT support tickets related to system issues.
- Test and install operating system and software patches.
- Monitor security logs and resolve anomalies.
Skills:
1. Computer Skills:
- Operating Systems: Windows Server, Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat), UNIX.
- Virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V, and Docker.
- Cloud Systems: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Scripting: PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation.
2. Language Skills:
- Proficient in written and verbal communication in English.
- Ability to prepare technical documentation and user manuals.
3. Job Technical (Functional) Skills:
- Backup and disaster recovery implementation.
- Performance tuning of operating systems and servers.
- Server and network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds).
- System diagnostics, troubleshooting, and patch management.
4. Interpersonal Skills:
- Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Time Management: Prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-Solving: Diagnosing complex technical issues quickly.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinating with IT teams and other departments.
Job Specifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- Experience: 2–5 years of experience in systems administration.
- Certifications: Microsoft Azure Administrator, RHCSA, CompTIA Server+.

- System uptime percentage.
- Incident resolution time.
